KENYA VS SINGAPORE, SAME GDPs IN 1963. HOW THEN DID SINGAPORE BECOME A FIRST-CLASS ECONOMY?

Image
The picture below illustrates Singapore in 1963 vs Singapore today
In 1963 when Kenya got independence and Singapore seceded from the British crown to become independent two years later, Kenya’s GDP was $926.6 million while Singapore’s was $917.2 million according to Business Daily Africa.
The two stories are very much alike at the start, British colonies, almost same GDPs (with Kenya marginally richer), gaining independence around the same time, but the resemblance lasts only as far as the beginning. As they progressed, the two stories diverge as far from each other as night from day.

Singapore today is a first world city-state in Southeast Asia with a population of 5.66 million as of 2019. It is a global hub for education, entertainment, finance, healthcare, human capital, innovation, logistics, manufacturing, technology, tourism, trade, and transport. In Singapore, one out of every six households has at least one million US dollars in disposable wealth. This excludes property, bus…

THINGS THEY DIDN'T TEACH YOU IN SCHOOL THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW.

Well, if you were taught these things in school, good for you because majority weren't. There is the formal education that they teach in school, and there is the school of life. You woke up at 5.ooam when you were younger to cram the parts of a grasshopper (pun intended) so you would pass your science test, and that is part of formal education. Education is the initiative of both the parents and the school. In Africa, we say it takes a village to raise a child, and a child belongs to the community because a child is taught and instilled knowledge by everyone: teachers, relatives, family friends, etc. It's not everything that the community teaches us and some things we get to learn by ourselves. Education is a continuing process and it never stops. Though we may not attend a class to learn, we really never stop learning. This leads us to the first point.
Most schools capitalize on improving and praising intelligence quotient. Intelligence quotient (IQ) is what helps one to &quo…

THAT PART OF YOUR LIFE IS OVER........, LET IT GO!

Image
And in my mid-twenties, the quote on the above picture has been among the most substantial advises I’ve gotten. You went through high school, you know logically you cannot go back there, because that part of life is over. But you still want to hold onto dead-end relationships, friendships, situations and things that are already passed by time. They had their time but their time elapsed and you are refusing to move on.

In life, you have to realize that life itself is a journey. Just like on the road, you will meet many people along the way. Different people at different times. For example, you are taking a thirty minutes walk or drive, you will encounter different people along the way, all types of people. Same as life, you were with a few people in school as you were growing up, from the ages of 3 to 13, some were there for that period only. You met them at school during those years and that was probably the last time you would meet, hang out or encounter some of them. But can you ho…

HEALTH IS WEALTH

When I heard this girl at a restaurant say, “Let me eat unhealthily, I don’t care about health, I never eat healthily, ‘kwani’ what is health?” as she shoved a juicy burger down her throat, my stomach sank. I hope one day she’ll understand the true meaning of health is wealth. Not that the burger was bad, but what she said that she literally doesn’t care about health. She must have been 20 years I presume, how will you reach to 80 years with your eating habits sis? Have you heard of the phrase “You are what you eat?” Take care of your body.  And this goes out to everyone else who doesn’t take care of their health.

Dr. Otto Warburg, a German psychologist, a medical doctor, and a Nobel laureate, won the Nobel Peace Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1931 for his discovery about cancer. He said that no disease including cancer can exist in an alkaline environment. He suggested that cancer cells live in hypoxic, very low oxygen and acidic conditions and derive energy from sugars by fermen…
